Synology DS923+ Review: Top Features & Prime Day Deals

In this review, I explore the versatile capabilities of the Synology DS923+, a robust NAS (Network Attached Storage) device that stands out as a savvy investment, especially during this upcoming Amazon Prime Day. As a parent looking to enhance home organization and digital security, I delve into its impressive features and user-friendly interface. Discover why the Synology DS923+ is not only a reliable storage solution but also a valuable addition to any family’s tech arsenal, offering seamless data management and peace of mind. Special thanks to Synology for supplying the DS923+ and HAT3310-12T hard drives for this review.

Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring a range of Synology’s product offerings. It all began in 2015 with my introduction to the Synology BeyondCloud Mirror NAS, which sparked my interest in Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. Since then, I’ve continued to delve into and review their latest DiskStation (DS) offerings. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate their routers, including the more recent WRX-560 Wi-Fi 6 Mesh units. Now, I get to check out the DS923+ with two of Synology’s own 12TB hard drives (HAT3310-12T) that are a part of this years Amazon Prime Day deals!

Design & Build Quality

Synology DS923+ - The Box

Once you have unboxed the DS923+ from the box and removed it from its protective cover you will notice how light it actually is. The exterior is of a moulded and textured light-weight plastic and the interior houses an aluminum frame with the hardware securely attached. Of course once you add the drives to the DS923+ it does get a bit heavier.

The front of the DS923+ has room for up to four hard drives (you can expand to a total of 9 with the optional DX517), a USB 3.2 port, status LEDs and the power switch.

On either side, the Synology name is used venting to help ensure heat is dissipated properly.

Around to the back of the Synology DS923+ you will notice the two large 92mm exhaust fans, dual RJ-47 1Gbps ports, an eSATA (expansion) port, power input, USB 3.2 port, and the network expansion port. It also has Kensington Security slot.

Flip the DS923+ over to show the underside and you can see the two M.2 NVMe SSD Slots.

Features & Specifications

The Synology DS923+ is a compact 4-bay NAS solution that can be configured for a variety of usages both in the home and in a small business environment. Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (or DSM), it can be used to centralize data storage, synchronize data across a variety of devices, used for data backups and more.

Take our home for example, I use the Synology DiskStation units for backing up our mobile devices (specifically photos), streaming of video content to the various TVs around the house and then more specialized work related tasks such as running various Virtual Servers, a GIT repository and more. The Synology DiskStation NAS product line can be easily tailored to many uses.
